An Axe to Grind: Episode 5

Justin and Erik take on Lifetime’s “The Lizzie Borden Chronicles” in a weekly podcast about murder, bloodspray and costume porn. Week five sees the men take center stage as TallCop asks a bold question of Emma, Cole Hauser finally becomes worthy of his own show and the Marshal stars in a subplot we just had to call “No Patience for Skipjack.” We debate the kill of the week and update the status of Emma’s dead baby while the Inn gets some remodeling.

Oh, but Skipjack is still our favorite.

You can’t just throw shit out there like Skipjack was responsible for “the Wickham Fire and all those dead horses” and not seriously just go into flashback mode with Mike Ehrmantrout and find out what the F THAT whole caper was. It’s literally the Lifetime version of Obi Wan casually mentioning the Clone Wars in Star Wars and then he never elaborates. I love that in the scene the judge IMMEDIATELY hates Skipjack, they seem to be the Newman-Seinfeld of 1892, and the judge will not even take a half-ounce of shit from Skipjack.

Couldn’t agree more that we need a series of Siringo, Hilliard, and Skipjack solving crimes… But if that’s not possible, I think Skipjack can easily show up on an episode of THE GOOD WIFE or EMPIRE or even GOTHAM playing the exact same character, dressed in those same skeevy clothes and hat, doing the exact same sleazy crap and blackmailing and snitching and ineffectively pimping and just generally stirring up trouble. I don’t care if the series takes place 100 years later and he hasn’t aged a lick. He’s Skipjack! Or just make him Skipjack’s great great grandson that dresses and acts exactly like him. Who cares.

Also, I’m glad I’m not the only one who howled laughing that Cole Hauser goes the full Three Stooges and demands that Skipjack remember his goddamn hat as they leave the ice house. I think he even hits him in the stomach with the hat as they leave. Pure Moe Howard moment. Why would Siringo care if Skipjack forgets his hat??? Moments earlier he beat Skipjack within an inch of his life and put him in a choke hold, but he’s worried if the guy misplaces his derby?

This podcast makes me pee myself lauging and should be included as the director’s commentary when the Lizzie Borden Chronicles is released on BLUE RAY. It’s at least as entertaining as the show. . FInally, is Skipjack his FIRST or LAST name? Does the show ever clarify? Or is he just “Skipjack?” Maybe you can email the show’s writers and find out what the blue hell his first or last name is.

I have an unhealthy fascination with all things Skipjack. I know, I need help.
