Food & Wine Thursdays: A Delicious Double-Pork Burger

Want an alternative to a hamburger or turkey burger? This pork and bacon burger is moist, smokey, and delicious.

  1. One pound ground pork.
  2. Two strips thick cut bacon, diced.
  3. One tablespoon of your favorite dry spice mix.
  4. 1 teaspoon each garlic powder, paprika, and black pepper
  5. 2 teaspoons salt
  6. 1 shallot, finely minced (optional)
  7. 1 egg
  8. Sliced cheese (optional)

In a large bowl, mix all the ingredients together. Use your hands, don’t be afraid. When the meat and spices are thoroughly mixed, divide the mixture into four even-sized balls. On a cutting board, mash the meat balls down with your hands into four patties about 3/4″ thick.

On a hot grill or grill pan cook the pork burger thoroughly, approximately 5 minutes on each side. FLIP ONLY ONCE! None of that flippy-floppy nonsense. If you want, add a slice of cheese to the patty and cover with a pot lid for the last minute of cooking.

I like my pork burger on a Trader Joe’s honey wheat hamburger bun with aioli, Dijon mustard, and onion confit.
